A coach that already read your log.
The AI Coach is a chat screen, but every reply is grounded in what's actually in the app: today's calorie intake, this week's logged workouts, your stated goals, and your body stats. It doesn't ask what you ate today — it already knows.
- Calories and macros logged today
- Recent workout sessions, sets, and weights
- Current goal, training level, and targets
- Body stats from your profile
Instead of a generic "take a rest day" reminder, guidance is driven by your actual logged training volume, your current day-streak, and whether a specific lift's numbers have plateaued.
Ask "how's my squat progressing?" and the coach matches it against your logged exercise names — preferring the most specific match, so "bench" doesn't accidentally answer for an incline bench press — then answers from that exercise's full session history.
Ovels runs its AI features on a tiered system rather than one fixed model:
| Tier | What it means |
|---|---|
| Full / Mid / Mini | On-device language models of different sizes, run locally so a coaching reply doesn't require a network connection |
| Basic / rules-only | Falls back automatically when no on-device model is ready yet — the app stays useful while a model finishes downloading |
The active tier is re-checked whenever the app returns to the foreground, since a model can finish downloading — or get swapped for a better fit — while the app is backgrounded. The exact model roster behind each tier is in AI Models.
Once a week, the coach can generate a short written check-in summarizing the week — but only when there's actually enough recent data to say something meaningful. No data, no filler check-in.
